I would like to devote my life to continuing to develop useful robots

Do you work on your 'expertise' or on your 'love'?

When I was a child, I happened to watch the NHK Student Robot Contest on TV. I was fascinated by the variety of shapes and movements of robots, from slick and beautiful robots to crude and adorable ones. I started attending a robotics class in my home town and became obsessed with assembling robot kits from famous manufacturers. Although I wanted to be involved in robot development in the future, I went on to study chemistry at high school and university, so I kept a bit of a distance from robotics in my student life.

Now, when I thought about where I would like to work, the first place that comes to mind, in terms of my specialisation, is a chemical manufacturer. Most of my friends around me chose chemical companies as their place of employment because it is easy to make use of what we learned. However, I had a dream since I was a child. My dream was to be involved in robot development. I can't give up my love of robots. Should I utilise my expertise or dive into something I love? Without hesitation, I chose "love".

Learning about the local national character and seeking a flexible response

I am currently in charge of battery development and testing our robots in actual power plants. During the tests, our robots are actually operated on huge solar panels built in the desert to demonstrate their durability and other performance features. The evaluations we receive are across the board high, and we often wow the local power generation companies.

However, the difficulty of this job is that a high evaluation does not always mean a successful sale. In order to get people to install our robots, we are constantly looking for ways to improve their functions and reduce costs, in a flexible manner.

The excitement of an extension of play and a sense of mission for our customers

We don't have a production plant yet, so we do our own assembly and processing. I quite like soldering and sometimes it feels like an extension of play. Every day is full of excitement, as I feel like I'm creating things from scratch. I am benefiting from the fact that I have turned my "love" into a job.

On the other hand, every day I feel a sense of mission to be of service to our customers at all costs. I want to make every effort to reduce installation costs as much as possible without compromising the quality of the robots. I also want to develop even more Miraikikai robots. For example, we want to create robots that are useful in the field of agriculture. It will take more time to realise this dream, but I would like to make it a reality one day.
