I think it's wonderful to be able to hold high the ideal of "using technology for the good of society

Me as a mother, me as a saleswoman
A local girl, I left Kagawa when I went to university. When I was a member of a financial and accounting consulting company in Osaka, I was stationed in India for two years as a sales representative. I had volunteered at a Mother Teresa facility in India when I was a student, and working in India had been a dream of mine since then. Although those two years were nothing but difficulties, my desire to contribute to business in India and the Middle East grew stronger and stronger.
I left that company when I got married and had a baby, and after two years of concentrating on childcare, my thoughts of India came back to me. At that time, I stumbled across a seminar by Mr. Miyake, the company's president. I sympathised with his philosophy of "creating a more affluent society through robot technology" and I wanted to be part of communicating that idea. That was my motivation for joining our company. Raising children is very hard work and a great way to live, but your life is a different place from raising children. That's how I see it.
A world without manuals, a challenge for all of us
The significance of working for us is that we can take on the challenge of opening up new markets. Because it is a world without manuals, you will soon hit a wall. Our employees are all struggling to get their heads around it, but they manage to overcome the obstacles in unison. Everyone is a specialist in their field, so they are very reliable. Every day I want to use my experience as a sales person in some way.
I do a lot of work in partnership with my manager, who travels around the world conducting sales activities, so I guess my role is to provide logistical support. I translate proposal documents into English, and check that the solar panels at photovoltaic power stations are compatible with our robots. To tell the truth, I would like to go to the site and conduct sales activities there myself, but that's not possible because I'm raising my child and working shortened hours. However, I am very grateful that I am able to be involved in overseas business while working shortened hours.
An organisation full of specialists. I want to catch up with them as soon as possible
I only have a humanities degree and experience in sales, so I don't have any technical knowledge about robotics. I don't even know what robot technology can achieve. Even so, I feel a strong sense of empathy with Mr. Miyake's desire to "create a more affluent society". In some of the companies I have worked for in the past, the primary focus was on 'for the customer'. Some might say that the ideal of 'for the good of society' is a bit naive. But to me it seems like something to dream of, and I honestly think it would be wonderful if we could realise it.
I am sometimes overwhelmed by the passion of the engineers in our company: their spirit of pursuit to find out more about the technical know-how they possess, and their broad vision to contribute to society with their technology. I would like to catch up with them as soon as possible, but I still have a long way to go. Sometimes when I talk to my manager, he tells me "let's think about this more broady". I'd like to catch up soon, but I still have a long way to go. As you can imagine, it's hard to beat the ideas of someone who travels around the world doing sales.
